Generative AI Is Not Just Another Google Translate. Here's What We're Doing With It.

It would be foolish to pretend that generative AI is just another version of Google Translate.

Machine translation has been part of our industry for decades. Translation memories, glossaries and CAT tools have also been helping professional translators work faster and more consistently for years.

But generative AI has introduced something fundamentally different.

For the first time, we can use AI not only to translate text, but also to help manage the processes surrounding translation: analysing documents, extracting terminology, applying client-specific instructions, checking consistency and supporting quality assurance.

The possibilities go far beyond generating a translated sentence.

The problem is that many translation workflows were designed long before these possibilities existed. Adding an LLM through an API or another interface does not automatically solve the fragmentation of the underlying process. Sometimes it simply adds another step.

This is one of the main reasons we developed NIXA AI STUDIO.

We wanted to bring document processing, translation memories, terminology management, AI translation and quality assurance into one environment, with human expertise remaining an essential part of the process.

Rather than adapting our work to an ever-growing collection of separate applications, we decided to build software around the way we believe professional translation should work today.

We certainly don't believe that AI has solved every problem in translation. But we do believe that treating it as merely another machine translation engine means overlooking much of what this technology can actually do.
